
He walked through the forest with sure steps and confident words as he pointed out native trees and flowers and the occasional birds. With the energy of someone who has done this hundreds of times before, he showed me the best viewpoint for a panoramic perspective of the lakes.
Rico Mier, turning 53 this month, has been a guide for over 20 years at the Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park. He is also the president of Balinsasayao’s farmers’ association, and has helped ensure the livelihood of fellow farmers through ecotourism at the park.
